Posing tip: Weight on the back foot

Such a great little tip and so easy to forget. We were Posing training this week and one of the photographers took this shot on the left. In correcting we did only two things, pushed the weight further on to the back foot, pushing the hip back 45 degrees from the camera. Look at the difference it makes, to even a tiny frame like Deanna. The hips being forward look wider. Swapping the body language hand to the outside introduced more triangles and opened up the body and the diamond. The arm is firmly against the wall which is slimming and pulls the arm away from the body. The shoulder is anchored firmly on the wall making it easy for the client to recline towards the camera. Chin forward but not to far down on a lean face.

If you have the Posing Manual study Using the wall and all the options on that card there are 10. Girls with curves cards the best example of this is Wall recline and red dress at the window. Pushing back and away will save your hours slimming on Photoshop.

Having fun pushing those Booty’s back this week. Weight on the back foot because. If it’s towards the camera it will look bigger. Try to push the hips back without leaning the upper body forward.

  12. Great example showing what a difference a small change makes. Plus, the before has another glaring issue, the hand flat to camera distracts from the face.

  13. What a HUGE difference it made just switching between having her right arm up and her left! I love your posts! They are all great, I would love to just hang out and watch you for a day. I have a few other photography sites send me their posts to my e-mail and I NEVER get as much from them as I do from you and they are always 5x as long. I mean every word Sue, you are amazing! Not sure you have time to read these but just in case you do you should know that I love to see that I have an e-mail from you in my inbox. Keep up the good work!
